Inspiring children to learn about the origin of their food

The story behind Adam and The Potato Adventure

Recently, and by that I mean the last five years, I became a farmer. I started planting my own food and growing crops, looking after animals and working with my hands. However, primarily I work closely with children and have become extremely passionate about connecting children with the food they eat and how important it is for them to develop a healthy relationship with their food.

Preparing their food and watching little ones enjoy their meals while knowing so little about how their food grows made me come to the realisation that there was a gap that I wanted to bridge. That is how Adam and The Potato Adventure was born.

This story follows Adam, a curious young boy who sets out on an exciting adventure to learn where potatoes come from.

Alongside his mum and a friendly ant, he shrinks down to explore the underground world of root vegetables, meeting fun creatures along the way. The book turns learning into an adventure, showing children that food isn’t just something we buy, but something that goes through a whole journey before it reaches our plate.

I wanted to create a story that entertains children while sparking their curiosity. Many children today don’t get the opportunity to see farms, dig in the soil or understand how fruits and vegetables grow.

By making farming fun and accessible through storytelling, I hope to inspire young minds to ask more questions about their food and appreciate the beauty in nature.

I am so excited to share this book with families, educators and little explorers everywhere!
